
Constitution of La Societe des 40 Hommes et
8 Chevaux as ammended by 87th Promenade National -- Traverse

Article IV Eligibility
Section 1. Who may become members
No persons other than members of The American Legion may
become members of La Societe des Quarante Homes et Huit
Chevaux
No Grande Voiture, or Voiture Locale, may prescribe or
establish any eligibilty qualifications for membership in La
Societe which are in conflict with the Constitution of Voiture
Nationale.
Article V Membership and Dues
Section 7. Nomination for membership.
Membership may be granted by invitation only to any
eligible person upon nomination by a Voyageur Militaire and
executed on the form furnished by Voiture Nationale
showing:
(a) That he has been a member of The American Legion for not
less than the twelve (12) months preceding the date of the
petition, and that his dues for the current year therein have
been paid.
(b) That he has rendered service to The Americn Legion
entitling him to the honor of membership in La Societe des
Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux.
(c) That his character and reputation are good, and that he
has rendered the service aforesaid, which must be shown by an
endorsement to that effect bearing the signature of two (2) or
more members of the Voiture Locale to which the nomination is
addressed.
(d) That he has or has not previously been rejected for
membership, and if he has, the date of rejection and the number
and location of the Voiture Locale by which he was
rejected.
(e) That, if he was formerly a member of La Societe the
number and location of the Voiture Locale to which he belonged,
and the reason for his withdrawal.
(f) That, if he withdrew from membership under Section 10 of
this article, the certificate required by said section is
attached to his nomination.
