Bernie Sampson was appointed Correspondant National at the 89th Promenade.

With the passing of the resolution on membership eligibility we now have to do only one new thing. Always before the Legion would check DD214's and to become a member of La Societe all that was required was a legion card and to be asked. Now we have to check the DD 214's of anyone we wish to invite into the 40/8. All they need is an honorable discharge (no dates required) or be active duty and a invitation.

So now is the time to get out there and start working our new membership base. Yours for La Societe: Bernie Sampson Correspondant National It is our ambition that we begin providing our local American Legion Posts, VFW Posts, Marine Corps Detachments and other Veteran Organizations with information about all the good that the Locale, Grande, and Nationale Voiture Militare are doing in the Locale areas. Some of the things we do like Nurses Training Programs, Americanism – Flags for First Graders, Child Welfare, VAVS, etc.

Members of the American Legion and other Veteran Organizations don’t know who we are because we are very bad about sharing all the good that we do. We need to change the opinion of some of those who believe that this organization is only about the fun and games that we do. We also provide lots of support to the Locale Youth Sports programs, etc.

We do a good job of letting each other know what we do; however, we don’t do a very good job of telling the local media, newspapers, radio, and TV stations. We need to get much better at that. We march in parades, provide volunteers, and support AAU/JO, and other worthy programs in your local areas. However, we don’t tell the local area press, etc. The general public needs to know all the good we do and that we are also members of the American Legion or other Veteran Organization. That will go along way to assisting the joint efforts of both the 40 & 8 and other Veteran Organizations; therefore, growing our candidate pool.

It is recommended that each Voiture name a Locale P..R. Director and that way there will be immediate opportunity to communicate and coordinate all Public Relations and Information Programs up and down the chain. Please feel free to contact me either by E-Mail or Phone.

Yours in Service Sincerely, For God and Country,
