A Hobo Visit

Mciver Elementary School in Littleton, North Carolina holds an annual Veteran's Day Program. General Daniel "Chappie" James American Legion Post 425 and Auxilliary Unit 425 present information on American history, the Flag and other material to foster good American citizenship.

The Post and Unit requested the support of Voiture Locale 1630 headquarted in Halifax County. The Voiture pleased to support and participate in this event responding with a visit from Hobo La "French Dip" and Engineer "BIG" Al Burtchell.

La "French Dip" is Darrick McGee, CHEF DE GARE of Voiture 1630. In the world of Hobos and Rail Road tramps a "Dip" was a Pick Pocket.

The event was atteded by about 200 Students and teachers. Each student received a clown sticker, got to shake hands and ask questions.

Also in attendence were SSG Jason Burkee and Cpl Trey Fortson of the Roanoke Rapids Army recruiting Station.

National Hobos Boxcar Association

National Association Boxcar Hobos were organized in 1994 at the Promenade Nationale in Orlando, Florida. There were 17 hobos in attendance at the first meeting where the primary requirements for membership were established and the first officers were elected.

Each year at the Promenade Nationale, a party for special children is planned at the host city by the National Boxcar Association. These special children and their escorts are treated to lunch, train rides and entertainment provided by HOBO Clowns and bands. We also help with other children's programs in each of the Grandes or Locales if they request our assistance.

He can do parades and VAVS visits, childrens party etc. 4-5 weeks notice helps with travel planning.
